Lovely setting, house, people and food. Thank you for being such welcoming hosts and making our short stay so comfortable.

The House

Melfort House is the family home of Matthew and Yvonne Anderson and their daughters Phoebe and Georgie.

It's one of those rare gems that brings together a welcoming ambience, timeless style, contemporary comfort and warm Scottish hospitality - all of which blend together to make your holiday truly memorable.

Imagine arriving at Melfort House after a breathtaking day in the beautiful Argyllshire countryside - be it a stroll along the shores of Loch Melfort, a hike over the Braes of Lorne or a gentle meander through the coastal villages and towns which are steeped in history. Far, far away from the hussle and bussle, you will experience nature, space and landscapes that are good for the soul.

Why not arrive in time to have complimentary afternoon tea in the peaceful drawing room. Sink into deep sofas by the large log fire amidst family pictures and quirky antiques and take in the magnificent views.  Here you can read undisturbed, play backgammon or simply soften your gaze on the passing boats.

The Grounds

Beside the shores of Loch Melfort the mature garden and grounds of Melfort House are over 150 years old.

The South West facing aspect makes the most of the soft climate of Scotland's west coast and the warmth of the gulf stream.

Full of mature trees, rhododendrons and azaleas, the grounds are a peaceful place to stroll on a summers evening or sit on the terrace in the fading glow of the evening sun, gin and tonic in hand.

Enjoy the lawns, views and flora or come and take a sneak peak in our prolific polytunnel and see what joys it produces for the kitchen!  Yvonne will be delighted to give you a guided tour.

The Area

Lorne and Argyll a simply breathtaking part of the world...

From ancient Viking and prehistoric sites to wonderful beaches, wildlife, heather clad hills and a panorama of islands strewn across an azure blue sea, there is plenty to capture your eye.

Mountains, castles, fine gardens, whisky distilleries, folk music, island hopping and amazing boat trips though the infamous Corryvrecken whirlpool are but a few of the ways to enjoy your days whilst staying with us.
